• Installation: Sandbags and secure anchor points can usually be placed directly over shingles without the risk of breakage.
• Efficiency: Because shingles are uniform and relatively flat, large sections can be covered quickly, making this a faster process in emergency situations.

Tarping a Tile Roof

Tile roofs, while beautiful and durable, require much more care during tarping:

• Fragility: Tiles are significantly more fragile; stepping in the wrong spot can cause them to crack or break. This adds complexity and risk to the job.
• Specialized Technique: Crews must carefully place tarps and sandbags in a way that protects the tiles while still creating a watertight seal. Sometimes, ladders, walk boards, or specialized footwear are used to minimize breakage.
• Time & Precision: Tarping tile roofs typically takes longer because of the extra precautions, but it's worth it to preserve the integrity of your roof until permanent repairs can be made.
